IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING SCHOOL MEALS:

As TCSD has now welcomed all grades back, all in-person students (AM and PM dismissal times) will be provided meals to take home. These meals are to be eaten at home, not at school.

Students on Distance Learning, Long Term Independent Study, and other children ages 1-18 that are not enrolled at TCSD can pick up 5-day meal boxes at Alpine Vista, Kohn, Mulcahy, Los Tules, and the Central Kitchen, on Wednesdays from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM.

Children do not need to be present to receive the meal boxes. The student’s first name, last name, and school of residence, if any, will be needed to provide meals. As a reminder, for the safety of staff, students, and the community, please open your trunks for meals to be placed into. If walking up, please wear facial coverings and social distance.

In-person Instruction Waiver UPDATE: January 20, 2021

The State of California released new guidance on January 14, 2021, and we are working with the Tulare County Health and Human Services to determine the implications for Tulare City School District related to returning to In-Person Learning. We will continue to provide you updates as they become available. Thank you.

1/13/2021: Waiver Update

In-person Instruction Waiver UPDATE: 1/13/2021

We have an update on Tulare City School District’s plan to reopen for in-person instruction through the waiver process. Tulare County Public Health is exercising local authority to allow those schools that have County approved waivers at the local level to return their TK-2 students to in-person learning. This decision will allow Tulare City Schools, TK-2nd grade, to reopen for in-person instruction through the waiver process. This waiver is for grades TK-2nd only. We are determining a date for opening and will update you soon with the date and further details.

1/11/2021: Distance Learning Reminder

Just a reminder that since our in-person instruction waivers have not been approved by the state all TK-8th grade students will continue on distance learning or long-term distance learning.

Distance Learning AM sessions begin at 8:10 AM and PM sessions begin at 1:00 PM. Your students need to log on to Zoom at these times. If your student is on long term distance learning they will need to log on to Edgenuity and have their weekly check-in with their teacher.

1/8/2021: Welcome Back from Winter Break

This is a reminder from TCSD that this Monday, January 11th is our first day back from Winter Break and we will be continuing our instruction through Distance Learning. All TK-8th grade students will continue on the same program they were on before Winter Break. If your student is on Distance Learning AM sessions your student will need to log on to Zoom at 8:10 am and if your student is on a PM session they will need to log on to Zoom at 1:00 pm. If your student was on Long Term Distance Learning they will need to login to Edgenuity & then they will have a weekly check-in with a teacher. Please make sure your child’s Chromebook is charged and ready to be used on Monday.

11/29/2020: Important Update

Good Evening TCSD Families,

We hope that you had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday. We would like to remind you that tomorrow, Monday, November 30th all Tulare City School District TK-8th grade students will resume their distance learning instruction and your child will need to log in during their designated cohort class time. In the days leading up to Winter Break (which is Thursday, December 17th thru Friday, January 8th) we will be sending out updated information on our reopening for in-person instruction plans for January which are dependent on Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency and California Department of Public Health approving our in-person instruction waivers. Once again, thank you for your support and patience during these unpredictable times.

10/28/2020:In-person Instruction Waiver Update

Our Board of Trustees approved our TK-6th grade In-Person Instruction school waivers at last night’s (10/27) school board meeting and we have submitted them to the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency for approval. Our target start date for TK-2nd grade is December 7th and 3rd-6th grade is January 11th, if our waivers are approved. 7/15/2020: Revised 2020/2021 School Calendar

At yesterday’s Board Meeting a revised 2020/2021 School Calendar was approved. Our new start date is Thursday, August 13th. We have been working diligently in planning our return to school. Although we do not yet have a finalized plan, we hope to have more information out to you soon. 6/22/2020: Superintendent Letter- School Reopening Data Collection Form

Dear TCSD Families,

Tulare City School District is preparing for opening school on August 6th and our preferred opening method is a full return to in-classroom/on-campus learning. However, we also understand based on the COVID-19 statistics for Tulare County, guidelines from California Department of Public Health, California Department of Education, Tulare County Public Health, and CDC that we may not be able to fully return in August. Some of these guidelines include face coverings for staff and students, modifying recess/break procedures, rethinking physical education, limiting the number of students in a class at one time, social distancing in all areas (buses, classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, offices, etc.), additional cleaning measures and health screening requirements. Due to this uncertainty, we have designed multiple scenarios in order to be prepared to deliver high-quality educational opportunities to our students while being mindful to plan schedules that can swiftly adapt in response to current conditions without causing major disruptions to our students, families, and staff.

To gather more specific information about your child or children (more than we asked for in our Reopening Schools 20-21 survey), we ask that you please fill out our School Re-Opening Data Collection Form by Friday, June 26th. This form can be found on our website tcsdk8.org inside the COVID-19 Info & Resources page, on our Facebook page, Instagram and we will have paper copies available at our district office located at 600 N Cherry. The data collected will give us the additional necessary information to make reopening decisions as soon as possible so that our families and staff can plan accordingly.

Remember that if you or your child have a social-emotional or behavioral need during this crisis and/or you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to send an email to [email protected] include your child’s name, school site, your contact information.

6/10/2020: Preschool Registration Information, Updated Grab-n-Go Meals Information

Preschool Registration Reminder:
It is not too late to register your preschooler for the 2020-2021 school year. You can do so by going online at https://enrolmment.tcsdk8.org OR you can pick up a registration packet on Thursdays between 11:30-12:30 pm in front of the Early Childhood Office located at 600 North Cherry Street. If you have additional questions regarding registration, please contact the Early Childhood Office at (559) 685-6500.

Important Information about Grab-n-Go Meals
Free breakfast & lunch will continue until June 25th! Ten school cafeterias will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am-1 pm for uninterrupted meal availability. On Tuesdays, 4 meals will be offered per child. On Thursdays, there will be 6 meals offered per child. Any child 1 to 18 years old can receive these meals. Starting June 11th, the following schools will remain open: Alpine Vista School, Cherry Ave Middle School, Cypress Elementary, Kohn Elementary, Maple Elementary, Mission Valley Elementary, Mulcahy Middle School, Pleasant Elementary, Los Tules Middle School, and Wilson Elementary.

Clever Update: Students will continue to be able to log in to Clever during the summer. The sync between Clever and Aeries will be paused, which means that students “stay” in their previous grade until the sync is resumed in July.

There may be a period of outage for some applications that require a login (Lexia, Dreambox, BrainPOP, etc.)

Seesaw

Student Learning Journals in grades TK-6 will be archived but not deleted. Parents have the ability to log in to Seesaw and download their child’s learning journals if they choose to do so.

Summer Learning Opportunities

In addition to the Summer Blast and Kids Learn workbooks provided for students for learning over the summer break, we have added choice boards with activities across content areas on the Student Resources page on http://learn.tcsdk8.org. Enjoy some summer learning fun!

6/10/2020: Superintendent Letter- End of School Year

Dear TCSD Families,

It seems hard to believe that we are saying good-bye to the 19-20 school year without seeing our students/parents one last time. I know for many of you and us it seems like it has been much longer than 12 weeks. We are hopeful that the guidelines and criteria can be met by the time we start the 20-21 school year on August 6th so we can physically open our campuses, but it may have to be on a modified schedule to ensure safety for students and staff. As we work through this summer and school reopening processes, we want to reassure you that we will be providing information regarding any changes made to the 20-21 school schedule through regular updates utilizing AERIES communication, social media outlets and on our website (tcsdk8.org) inside the COVID-19 Info & Resources page. Our Grab ‘n Go Meals will continue to happen on ten school sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm until June 25th. These ten school sites can be found on our website or on our Nutrition Services Department’s website (nutritionservices.tcsdk8.org).

We understand COVID-19 impact has been felt across the world and the effects have changed the way we go about our daily lives. The concern of what school will look like in August may cause anxiety and worry for your family. Please feel reassured that we are designing multiple scenarios in order to be prepared to deliver high-quality educational opportunities for your children while being mindful to plan schedules that can swiftly adapt in response to current conditions. These scenarios also take into account the health and welfare of our students, families, and staff while also following state & local guidelines. If you haven’t already done so, please fill out our School Reopening Survey which is located in a link on our website and Facebook page. We value your input and want to know how we can support your family in being successful in any of the possible scenarios.

To any of our families that have felt the indirect or direct impacts related to COVID-19, or the loss of a family member or friend from COVID-19, we send our thoughts and support to each of you. Additionally, our children and families are processing the impact on our nation as we grapple with the turmoil and violence associated with current events. As young people turn to adults for answers, it is important that we listen and respond with honesty and empathy. The images they have absorbed on the news and social media may result in an array of emotions, including anger, fear, and anxiety. We must address those feelings. Helping students recognize and acknowledge their emotions can be a powerful tool in turning these events into a learning experience. You and your loved ones may be experiencing a wide range of emotions during this time also. Resources to address social-emotional, behavior, and well-being can be found on our district website by going to https://learn.tcsdk8.org/family-resources. School Reopening Survey
We need your help in planning for reopening schools next year. We are committed to keeping our community safe and following the guidelines of the CDC, State of California, County Public Health, and CDE once they are released. In preparing for next year, we are anticipating recommendations that could include face coverings, modifying recess/break procedures, rethinking physical education, limiting the number of students in a class at one time, social distancing in all areas (buses, classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, offices, etc.) additional cleaning and sanitizing measures, air ventilation, and health screening requirements. We understand our families have unique needs and we want to be prepared to support your child. In planning reopening scenarios, if the State of California deems it safe and allows schools to open, our first choice would be to offer a traditional schedule with students attending school a full day, every day on the physical campus. In the event that a traditional schedule is not feasible, additional scenarios are being considered. We value your input and want to know how we can support our students, families, and staff in being successful in any of the possible scenarios. Please help us by taking a few minutes to respond to the survey questions regarding reopening our schools this August.

5/15/2020: School Closure Extension For Remaining School Year

Dear TCSD Families,

It seems hard to believe that our students have been away from our schools for over two months now. I know
for many of you and us it seems so much longer. We miss seeing your students every day and we miss having
dialogue with you. When we closed our schools physically to students on March 16th, we had hoped that we
would return after Spring break. As the end of Spring break approached, the district realized that COVID-19
cases were increasing & along with the Tulare County Office of Education, we set four areas of criteria that
needed to be met to reopen our campuses. These criteria were not met so we announced our campuses were
closed until further notice. Unfortunately, it has come to the point of the school year that we are certain these criteria

will not be met and it has been decided that Tulare City School District’s campuses will not reopen
physically to students for the 19-20 school year. This closure also includes our Enrichment Summer School
program that was scheduled for June 15th-26th. In the place of Summer School, we are including in the LAB
#5 pickup, during the week of May 18th, a TK-7th grade standards-based summer workbook which will help
your student prepare for their upcoming grade level.

We are hopeful that the guidelines and criteria can be met by the time we start the 20-21 school year on
August 6th so we can physically open our campuses, but it may have to be on a modified schedule to ensure
safety for students and staff. As we work through this continuing school closure, we want to reassure you that
we will be providing information regarding any changes made to the 20-21 school schedule through regular
updates utilizing AERIES communication, social media outlets and on our website inside the COVID-19 Info
& Resources page. Information on the returning of district materials, the collecting of students’ personal items,
individual schools’ important information, and 8th-grade Graduation alternative plans will be forthcoming. Our
Grab ‘n Go Meals will continue to happen on our school sites and bus drop off points on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm until the beginning of June. For the month of June, Grab ‘n Go meals
will continue but under a different format which will be communicated to you in the near future.

We understand this decision continues to have a significant impact on our community and your families, but
at this time we believe it is an appropriate response to help reduce the possible impact from further spread of
the virus. Concern over the continued school closures may cause anxiety and worry for your children. Please
continue to reassure them that school closures are a precaution for them and your family's safety. To any of
our families that have felt the indirect or direct impacts related to illness, or the loss of a family member or
friend from COVID-19, we send our thoughts and support to each of you.

5/1/2020: Reopening Criteria, School Closure Update

Dear TCSD Families,

It seems hard to believe that our students have been away from our school for nearly even weeks now. I know for many of you and us it seems much longer. We miss seeing your students every day and we miss having dialogue with you. In saying that, due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic we will be apart for longer than we expected when we closed on March 16th. It has been decided that Tulare City School District will continue to be closed until further notice, but with the understanding that we may not physically re-open to students until the 20-21 school year in August. We understand this decision continues to have a significant impact on our community and your families, but at this time we believe it is an appropriate response to help reduce the possible impact from further spread of the virus.

The following criteria are still being used to determine when and if Tulare City School District is to reopen for student attendance:

1. The California State Shelter in Place Executive Order has been lifted.
2. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tulare County and/or California has remained
constant for a two-week period or declined.
3. The directive to Social Distance has been removed by the State of California
4. The limit of people placed on social gatherings has been removed by the State of California.

As we work through this continuing school closure, we want to reassure you that we will be providing information through regular updates utilizing AERIES communication, social media outlets, and on our website inside the COVID-19 Info & Resources page. Information on the continuation of school, the returning of district materials, the collecting of students’ personal items, and 8th-grade Graduation alternative plans will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Returning documentation for the Health Services Staff during school closure:

We have put together a flyer regarding where and how to return various documents for the health services staff during school closure. Even with current school closures, immunization requirements for admission to a California school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and the upcoming 2020-2021 school year remain in place per the California Department of Public Health. These requirements affect Preschool, Transitional kindergarteners, Kindergarteners, and Seventh Grade students, and all new students to our district.

Online Preschool Registration

Good News! Tulare City School District is now accepting online preschool registrations for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to complete online registration for preschool, please go to https://aeriesair.tcsdk8.org. This will take you to the initial preschool registration paperwork that needs to be completed. Once the initial paperwork has been completed online, a staff member from the Early Childhood Office will be contacting you about additional information that will need to be collected based on the preschool program interested in. We look forward to being able to service your preschooler in the upcoming school year!

To support students, schools, and communities during this challenging time, the CDE has developed new web pages with information regarding mental health resources, including links for students to get direct access to mental health professionals. The new “Help for Students in Crisis” web page includes crisis and warm line numbers, along with other COVID-19-related resources for providing virtual mental health services and information for mental health providers, families, and youth. Important Message about Free Grab-n-Go Meals:

We welcome you to come pick up Grab-n-Go Meals tomorrow, Thursday, April 23rd.

To streamline Grab-n-Go meals, beginning the week of April 20, 2020, all TCSD schools will be distributing Grab-n-Go meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays ONLY. On Tuesdays, there will be 4 meal servings offered per child. On Thursdays, there will be 6 meal servings offered per child. The distribution time will remain from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at all TCSD School Site Cafeterias and Meals-on-Wheels Bus Stops. Please check our website for bus drop off locations.
We will be asking families to pop open their trunk or hatchback to have the food placed here to limit social contact following CDC recommendations. If walking to a site or at the bus drop off points, please follow 6 feet of recommended social distancing amongst those waiting in line.

Resources to Support Learning at Home

In addition to the Learning Activity Bundles, teachers are providing during school closure, the District has compiled numerous online student and family resources that can be accessed from home to keep learning fun and engaging for students. You can also find links to the Social-Emotional, Behavior, and Well-Being Newsletters on the site under the “Family Resources” tab.

Preschool Registration Update:
Tulare City School District is finalizing its plans to create an online preschool registration process for the 2020-2021 school year. Our goal is that parents will be able to begin registering very soon. We will continue to update through AERIES communication and please continue to check our district website and district Facebook page for updates.

Valley PBS is providing exciting free educational resources available to local schools. These services are available over the air broadcast, so no internet connection is required. Your child’s teacher may be assigning a particular program to watch as part of the Learning Activity Bundles, but students are able to watch any of the scheduled programs. 4/14/2020: Updated Grab-n-Go Meals Information

Beginning the week of April 20, 2020, TCSD schools will be distributing Grab-n-Go meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays ONLY.

On Tuesdays, there will be 4 meal servings offered per child. On Thursdays, there will be 6 meal servings offered per child.

By distributing meals, 2 days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the same total amount of food will be given to each child as before, but the process will be streamlined for families. As new recommendations are put out by the California Department of Education (CDE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), TCSD adjusts its practices. It has been recommended to limit the number of outings. By passing meals out only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, family outings will be streamlined and exposure will be limited.

TCSD will also be asking families to open hatchbacks and trunks for the food to be placed directly into the vehicle limiting social contact for families and employees.

At the Meals-on-Wheels, bus drop locations, and school site cafeterias, please use social distancing and stand 6 feet apart as you wait for your Grab-n-Go servings.

Hand washing for at least 20 seconds
Social distancing
Covering coughs and sneezes
Cleaning and disinfecting regularly
Facial coverings
Stay home/contact doctor if feeling ill

4/1/2020: Extended School Closure Learning Plan, Nutrition Services, Preschool and Kindergarten Registration

Extended School Closure Learning Plan
Learning will continue to take place through individualized Learning Activity Bundles for students in preschool through 8th grade. Learning Activity Bundles will be distributed to all students beginning on Tuesday, April 14th, after Spring Break. Your child’s school will communicate the pick-up schedule for your school before April 14th. Learning Activity Bundles will be distributed every two weeks throughout the school closure. Your child’s school will continue to keep you informed of the Learning Activity Bundle pick up days and the schedule for retrieval. The Learning Activity Bundles will contain activities to keep your child engaged in reading, writing, social studies, science, and physical education. 7th and 8th-grade students will also have activities included in their elective classes. Your child’s teacher will be checking in remotely with your child weekly to see how they are doing and to offer assistance if needed. For more information, please visit www.learn.tcsdk8.org

Nutrition Services
During the week that was previously designated as Spring Break, April 6th through April 13th, Grab and Go Meal Distribution will be modified. There will be no Meals on Wheels, bus drop locations, and distribution will be at 10 sites for 2 days only. Meals will be ONLY distributed on Monday, April 6th and Wednesday, April 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 10 sites. Meals are for all children ages 1 through 18 and the child doesn’t need to be enrolled in the school where the meal is picked up. The schedule is available online through the district's Facebook and website.

Preschool/Kindergarten Registration
Due to recent school closures, Preschool and Kindergarten Registration is on hold. As we have more information about how and when this will occur, we will post updates on our District Website, District Facebook, and communicate information through AERIES communication.

3/27/2020: School Closure Until Further Notice

Dear TCSD Families,

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, it has been decided that Tulare City School District will remain closed until further notice. When we closed the district on Monday, March 16th we originally looked at opening the school district back up on Tuesday, April 14th, but due to the ongoing Shelter in Place Executive Order, the original reopening date had to be delayed. We understand this decision will have a significant impact on our community, but at this time we believe it is an appropriate response to help reduce the possible impact from further spread of the virus. As we work through this continuing school closure, we want to reassure you that we will be providing information through regular updates utilizing AERIES communication, social media outlets and on our website inside the COVID-19 Info & Resources page. Information on the continuation of school work will be forthcoming. Grab ‘n Go Meals will continue to happen on our school sites and bus drop off points. The bus drop off schedule can be found here.

The following criteria will be used to determine when and if Tulare City School District is to reopen for student attendance:

The California State Shelter in Place Executive Order has been lifted.
The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tulare County and/or California has remained constant for a two-week period or declined.
The directive to Social Distance has been removed by the State of California
The limit of people placed on social gatherings has been removed by the State of California.

Concern over school closures may cause anxiety and worry for your children. Please continue to reassure them that school closures are a precaution for them and your family's safety. Empower them to know they can take steps to help promote their continued health and prevent the spread of illness by:

Washing hands multiple times a day for at least 20 seconds
Covering their mouths with a tissue when they sneeze or cough and throwing away tissue immediately, or coughing into the crook of their elbow.
Practicing giving fist or elbow bumps instead of handshakes with family and/or friends.
Adhering to social distancing by maintaining 6 feet of space from the general public, limiting exposure to crowds & public gatherings and when your family can practice shelter in place guidelines.

Student Work
The District has provided enrichment work for all students. This work will not be turned in or graded. This enrichment work is for the weeks of March 23rd through April 3rd. The Choice Boards provided for each subject have multiple learning activities that can be done with the materials provided and used with other reading materials you may have at home. Students who have digital access can go to learn.tcsdk8.org and find activities for their grade level. Students can access all digital resources through Clever. Clever login information and Aeries Parent Portal login information have been mailed home with report cards. If you need assistance, please email [email protected]

Student Meals
Grab-and-go meals will continue to be provided at school sites from 11:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. In addition, starting Monday, March 23rd, grab-and-go meals will be available at school bus stops across the district. You can find the bus stop locations and times online.

3/19/2020: School Closure Information- Report Cards, School Work, Meals, Medications

Dear TCSD family,
Due to our nation’s health concern schools have been closed as of Monday, March 16th through Monday, April 13th. As we move forward through this challenging me, we will continue to provide families with periodic updates.

Report cards are on their way
Preschool through 8th-grade report cards are being mailed home and should arrive by March 24, 2019. Included in the mailing are your child’s report card and Clever login information for students in grade TK-8.

School Work is being provided to children in 2 different ways.
Preschool through 8th-grade students who have digital access can find a link on the District Website – TCSD COVID 19 –Learn at Home for their grade levels. TK-8th grade students can access all digital resources through Clever. If you do not know your student’s ID# for logging in to Clever, you can email [email protected]. TK-8th grade students without digital access can pick up materials at their school site, on Friday, March 20th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Breakfast and lunch are being served.
Grab-n-Go meals are available to all children, ages 1 through 18, at each of TCSD’s 15 school sites in the front of the cafeterias from 11:00 am -1:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Children must be present to receive the meals. Adults are not eligible. Beginning Monday, March 23rd, Grab-n-Go meals will be available at TCSD Bus Stop locations as attached here. Food Bus Stop Drop Off Schedule. Look for the Tulare City School Bus in your neighborhood between 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Grab-n-Go meals will not be offered during Spring Break April 6-13.

Student Medication Retrieval
If your student has medication at school and you will need it during the school closure, school personnel will be on-site Friday, March 20th from 9:00 am-1:00 pm for you to pick up medication.

Talking to your child about COVID 19
The National Association of School Psychologists along with the National Association of School Nurses have composed a document with guidelines, talking points, and additional resources for you to use when discussing this with your students. Special Education

Progress towards IEP goals will be mailed home with report cards. IEP case managers will be reaching out to parents to assist with providing modifications to enrichment work sent home. Additional special education resources can be found by going to the District Website – TCSD COVID 19 –Learn at Home and clicking on the Special Education button. If there was an IEP scheduled for your child from 3/16-4/3, the case manager will be reaching out to you to discuss options for holding or rescheduling the meeting.

3/17/2020: School Closure- Frequently Asked Questions

Dear TCSD family,
As you know the schools have been closed as of Monday, March 16th through Monday, April 13th due to our nation’s health concern. Here are some helpful guidelines as we all go through the next few weeks.

How does this three-week closure impact the school calendar?
Regardless of how many days the school ends up staying closed, at this point, we are not looking at extending our calendar. The Governor has announced an executive order that will not require us to make up those days. The last day of school will still be Tuesday, June 9th. All graduations are still on the same dates as scheduled.

Will my child be provided with work at this time?
Yes. The District is providing enrichment work for all students. Students who have digital access can find a link on the District Website – TCSD COVID 19 –Learn at Home for their grade levels. Students can access all digital resources through Clever. Students without digital access can pick up materials at their school site in the cafeteria, along with sack lunches, on Friday, March 20th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Work will not be turned in or graded.

What if I want my child to do more than what is provided by the District?
The enrichment work being provided is open-ended and can be used with additional reading materials provided at home.

What if my student is on the Home & Hospital program?
Currently, for the health and safety of our students and staff, all Home & Hospital visits with teachers have been canceled through April 13th.

Will breakfast and lunch be served?
TCSD is currently working with TJUHSD to coordinate providing meals to all students, ages 1 through 18, at all of TCSD’s 15 school sites beginning Wednesday, March 18th from 11:00 am -1:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These will be grab-n-go meals available through a drive-thru or pick-up system. Children must be present to receive the meals. Adults are not eligible.

What if my child has an IEP meeting scheduled over the next three weeks?
On March 16, 2020, Governor Newsom requested and the Legislature adopted emergency legislation that allows all timelines related to special education to be adjusted according to the number of school days that a school is closed due to COVID-19. Your child's case manager will be reaching out to you as soon as possible in regards to the IEP meeting. One of the three options below will occur:
1. When feasible and if the parent and IEP team agree to it, a phone IEP may be held during the school closure.
2. The IEP may be opened by phone but then an in-person continuation may be scheduled for a time after school resumes.
3. The IEP may be rescheduled in its entirety for a time after school resumes.

What if my child has medications that are housed in the school health office?
If your student has medication at school and you will need it during the school closure, school personnel will be on-site Friday, March 20th from 9:00 am-1:00 pm for you to pick up medication.

What is available for my preschooler?
Preschoolers are able to access the grab-n-go meals at any school site like all TK-8 students. Enrichment activities for preschoolers are also available on the District Website -TCSD COVID 19 –Learn at Home.

What can I do to help my student and family stay healthy during this time?
During this time of school closures, we highly recommend that students and families continue to practice health and safety measures such as handwashing and social distancing. This school closure is put in place to help mitigate the spread of this virus and if our students and families congregate in groups, this can counteract these social distancing measures.

How can I talk to my child about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) so that they can better understand what is going on?
The National Association of School Psychologists along with the National Association of School Nurses have composed a document with guidelines, talking points, and additional resources for you to use when discussing this with your students. 3/15/2020: School Closure from March 16th - April 13th

The majority of you have probably already received the AERIES Communication message a few moments ago regarding Parent Conference Early Dismissal. School has been canceled Monday, March 16th through Monday, April 13th and this includes Parent Conferences. This phone message was scheduled weeks back and unfortunately was not canceled. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. The following information is what was given to you in the AERIES Communication earlier today. Thank you for your continued patience and support during this time.

Dear TCSD Families,

After careful consideration, it has been decided, in order to address COVID-19, all schools in Tulare City School District will be closed to students from Monday, March 16, 2020, through Monday, April 13. This decision will have a significant impact on our community, but at this time we believe it is the appropriate response to help reduce the possible impact from the further spread of the virus. As we work through school closures, we want to reassure you that we will be providing information through regular updates utilizing AERIES communication and social media outlets. Information will be forthcoming regarding school work and food services.

Concern over closing schools may cause anxiety and worry for your children. Please reassure them school closures are a precaution for their safety. Empower them to know they can take steps to help promote their continued health and prevent the spread of illness by:

Washing hands multiple times a day for at least 20 seconds (singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star slowly, takes about 20 seconds)
Covering their mouths with a tissue when they sneeze or cough and throwing away the tissue immediately, or coughing into the crook of their elbow.
Practicing giving fist or elbow bumps instead of handshakes. Fewer germs are spread this way.
Adhering to social distancing by maintaining 6 feet of space from the general public and limiting exposure to crowds and public gatherings.

Encourage your child to eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly; this will help them develop a strong immune system to fight off illness.

3/13/2020: Parent Conference Modifications

We would like to provide you with an update on the concern surrounding COVID-19. Tulare City School District is working cooperatively with the Tulare County Office of Education and the Tulare County Department of Health to monitor the rapidly changing situation regarding COVID-19. As of today, schools will remain open.

As a recommended precaution, to limit visitors and thus reduce exposure, parent conferences will be modified. In-person conferences will not be held. Teachers will communicate with parents and guardians during the parent conferences week of March 16th by utilizing Aeries Communication, ClassDojo, phone calls, and/or written correspondence.

The health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and families is our number one priority. At this time, to our knowledge, no Tulare City School District students or staff members have contracted or are being tested for the virus. In addition, there are currently no reported community spread cases of the COVID-19 virus within the city of Tulare. We will keep you informed of developments and changes as new information becomes available.

3/9/2020: COVID 19 Information

The 2019 novel coronavirus is a virus that was recently identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and is now being spread widely in other parts of mainland China. More cases are being detected worldwide, and while new cases were initially linked to Hubei Province, China, at this time public health officials consider being anywhere in China within the past 14 days a risk factor for novel coronavirus infection.

The virus causes respiratory illness. For up-to-date information regarding the novel coronavirus, see:

At this time, the health risk to the general public in California from novel coronavirus remains low, but individuals can take common-sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases.

The best way to prevent illness from ANY virus is to reduce exposure to this virus. As a reminder, the CDC recommends everyday preventative actions (which we encourage at school, too) to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

Stay home when you are sick
Wash your hands often
Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

In addition, our custodians clean our classrooms and common areas each day. These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. We will continue to stay in contact with the Tulare County Public Health Department and will provide updates as they are given to us.
