I can’t believe that we are already halfway through this school year and that we are almost into the month of February. To celebrate “Heart Month” MissionValley’s first through sixth grade students will be teaming with the American Heart Association in a fundraising effort for their organization by participating in MissionValley’s Jump Rope for Heart activity on Friday, February 19th in the morning (1st-3rd 8:45-9:45 4th-6th gr. 10-11:00).This activity will consist of different jump roping stations (single, group, relay races and a health station) out around the campus and students will participate with their grade level. The fundraising information (AHA permission slip, donation envelope and a letter) for this event will be sent home Wednesday, January 27th and in order to participate, students must bring back a signed permission slip provided by the American Heart Association. Last year’s Jump-Rope-for-Heart event raised $9,808.13 and we are hoping to raise close to the same amount.Because the MissionValley students reached their goal I was taped to a pole. This year if they reach the set goals, I will be walking around without any hair on the top of my head and or on my face (haven’t seen that top lip in 30 years). Heart disease and strokes are America’s number 1 and number 3 killers, so as a school we would like to help fight these by raising money through our Jump-a-Thon, practicing healthy eating habits and exercising. If you would like to volunteer for the event and/or have questions, please contact the school at 685-7396.
Stay Heart Healthy,
Mr. Hollingshead
