Welcome to 6th Grade at Mission Valley! We believe this is a very important year for students, as it provides them one last chance to learn the academic material, organizational skills, and maturity they will need to handle the big changes involved with moving on to 7th and 8th grade. Here is a summary of some of the things we will be covering: Math: Pre-algebra and lots of emphasis on fractions, ratios, and proportions Reading/Language Arts: Writing paragraphs, essays, longer pieces of fiction, and reading increasingly difficult novels. Science: Earth Science Social Studies: Pre-historic Man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and other early civilizations Homework: Our 6th graders are assigned an hour or less per night of homework. Naturally the amount of time it takes each student to complete their work will vary. Most of the work is assigned on Friday and is due the following Friday, which helps the student develop responsibility for how they want to organize it. |
